Mike and Keith recently attended the grand opening of The Residences at Fountain Square in Waukegan, IL. The Residences at Fountain Square is a dynamic, 75-unit development conveniently located near shopping, dining and a major highway. With one-and two-bedroom floor plans, each apartment comes with a fully equipped kitchen, energy efficient windows and central heat and air. Residents also enjoy a range of bustling common spaces, including a fitness center, community room, business center, patio and garden that are often used for resident socials and activities, organized by building staff. The project was completed through creative public-private partnerships with JP Morgan Chase, the Waukegan Housing Authority, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority. The project was partially financed utilizing the federal low-income housing tax credit.

Todd and Diane recently attended the 2012 Governor’s Conference on Affordable Housing at Navy Pier in Chicago. Todd was one of four panelists on a panel called “Financing Alternative Energy Technologies.” Titled “Energy-Efficient, Cost-Effective,” Todd covered two categories of energy savings that can be pursued in new construction or renovation projects, as well as incentives available for energy-efficiency improvements, and also the impact of the implementation of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code.

Mike and Diane recently participated in the 10th annual Illinois Housing Council meeting. Mike moderated a panel called Green Certification and Diane emceed the sold-out event.

We recently snapped a photo of a mural at Hope Manor Apartment in East Garfield Park. Hope Manor Apartments provides safe, affordable housing for veterans in addition to educational, employment, medical, and social services. The project finishes as we begin work on Hope Manor II Apartments in Englewood.

Bill and Elizabeth recently attended the press conference announcing the launch of the Home First Illinois Initiative. Governor Pat Quinn was on hand to announce commitment of funds from the Illinois Jobs Now! capital program to provide support for the new initiative that plans to create new independent living opportunities for Illinoisans with disabilities. In addition, the Illinois Housing Development Authority provided financing to develop the program.
WJA is proud to be partnering with IFF in this new venture. Once complete, IFF, along with their partner Access Living, will collaborate to manage units and place individuals with physical disabilities currently living in institutions into the newly accessible community settings.

Elizabeth, Heidi, and Zubin have all completed and passed their Architect Registration Examinations, and are in the process of completing their membership with the American Institute of Architects.

Congratulations Heidi, who recently passed the EDAC examination.
The Center for Health Design’s internationally recognized Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) program awards credentials to individuals who demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to apply an evidence-based process to the design and development of healthcare settings, including measuring and reporting results.

Alexis recently attended the Heritage Woods of Gurnee groundbreaking in Gurnee, Illinois. Heritage Woods of Gurnee is a 105-unit supportive living facility for seniors. The project is expected to open in July 2012. The large number of attendees included the mayor of the Village of Gurnee, Kristina Kovarik, and Andrew Field, aide to Senator Mark Kirk.
